This essay will answer questions like why I began Taekwondo, and why I still participate in it.

Taekwondo began when I was in third grade. I had always been interested in new activities, such as gymnastics, horseback riding and skating. But I eventually stopped because Taekwondo really intrigued me. Even after giving up all other activities, I still attend Taekwondo classes. I like going to class because I have a lot of fun, and it’s also a good way to meet my friends. Taekwondo is a great way to learn important things, like how to defend yourself and read other people.

Since I’ve gotten older, I realize that I could still be strong without Taekwondo. The goal I set for myself has now changed. It is to get a black-belt because it will make me feel good and motivate me to reach more goals.

When I achieve my blackbelt I’m sure things will change. I plan to learn more Bong-Moo-yea techniques, more advanced forms of self-defense, and to be able to share this knowledge with younger students.

As I progress to my blackbelt I can expect to see a change in me. For example, I may get a poomsae as I have been getting one with every new belt. As I progress to a blackbelt, I’ll probably be learning more Bong Moo Yea and advanced self-defense. When I get my black belt, I’m expecting to have higher expectations and work harder.

Taekwondo has values and morals that are very similar to those of virtues. Both are ways of saying, “This is what you should do.” Taekwondo teaches values such as being truthful, compassionate and helpful. Some of these values include being kind to elders or your parents. You must remember when discussing morals that disrespecting someone and talking over them goes against the Taekwondo morals. You would be going against the morals and values of Taekwondo if you disrespected others and talked over them.

Taekwondo is a great way to learn about morals and right from wrong. When I receive my blackbelt I will do my best to reach all my future goals.
