An American Hero will always put others before himself or herself and do good works in the community and at home. A person who makes a positive difference in the lives of others. One to emulate and to follow their steps.

Ty Cobb was born Tyrus Ray Cobb on December 18th, 1886. Ty Cobb grew-up in Royston near Narrows. Cobb was born the eldest child and fell in love with baseball at a young age. Cobb was a member of the Roystons Rompers before joining the Agusta Tourist in 1904. Cobb’s mom shot her husband in 1905 when she thought he was a burglar. She was sentenced to jail for manslaughter. In less that a calendar month, the Tourist had sold Cobb to Detroit Tigers. By 1906, Cobb was known as the Georgia Peach. He had one of Major League’s most impressive careers. Tyrus Cobb’s career was booming when he set his first of 12 batting records in 1907. Ty won the “triple-crown” in 1909 when he topped the AL’s home runs, average batting and RBIs (runs batted in). His statistics for winning the “triple Crown” included 9 home runs and a.377batting average. He also had 107 RBIs. Tyrus’s best season came in 1911. In that year, he had 248 hits and 147 runs. He also scored 127 RBIs. And he hit an impressive.420. Ty Cobb was an unbeatable machine. His split grip battle held gave him the ability to have complete control. Cobb was also an insane baserunner. But the fire that drove him towards greatness was revealed in 1912 as he attacked a disabled heckler during a game.

Cobb continued his coaching career at the Tigers. In 1926 he suddenly announced his resignation and revealed shortly afterwards that Ty Cobb had been charged with fixing games along with Cleveland Indians player Tris Speak. Kenesaw Mountains Landis, the commissioner at that time, cleared Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker in early 1927. Ty Cobb spent two seasons playing for the Philadelphia Athletics before retiring in 1928. Cobb’s career ended as the leader of dozens or categories. In 1936, writers from various publications gathered to vote on the inaugural class of Hall of Fame players.

Cobb’s name was on the most votes. Tyrus C. Cobb enjoyed a rich life in his later life after successfully investing Coca-Cola General Motors. He was a man of surliness but he also shared his wealth generously. Cobb established the Cobb Educational Fund and built a Royston hospital. Ty Cobb died on 17th July 1961 from prostate tumors in Atlanta Georgia. In 1998, Cobb was ranked as the third best baseball player in history. Cobbs legacy is enduring, even if many of the records he held have been broken. His batting average however remains unchallenged.
